Kira, I thought is was mandatory as a US citizen or western tourist to have an escort in Lybia at all times, including while in Tripoli. If that not the case, I would much prefer to explore Tripoli and the medina with a friend without an escort attracting attention. I do not see how that is a problem. Temehu is asking for extra euros for an escort who probably does not speak english for three days in Tripoli. That seems like a lot of money for someone who is not an english speaking guide.

The museum on Green Square has a few English speakers, you hear snippets from time to time. The pick-up beside us decided I was a threat to national security whilst travelling at kph and drove alongside us yelling at my driver to get off at the next junction to see the police.
